EVAline has an expected service life of 50,000 burning hours at L90/B50. Heat has a significant impact on the service life of LEDs. That is why the Auto Temperature System continuously monitors the LED temperature and protects the LEDs if the temperature becomes too high. EVAline comes with a four-year manufacturer’s warranty.

The air inside a swimming pool hall is warm, humid and rich in chlorine. This places high demands on materials and electronics and can damage lighting that has not been designed for this environment.

EVAline has been specifically designed for swimming pool environments. The system utilises chlorine-resistant anodised aluminium and specific material treatments, and is rated to IP53. Furthermore, the Auto Temperature System continuously monitors the LED temperature and intervenes if it becomes too high. This protects the LEDs and ensures their lifespan is maximised.

This is made possible by EVAline’s asymmetrical light distribution. The LEDs are positioned at an angle within the luminaire, whilst the luminaire itself hangs straight down. This allows the light line to be positioned above the platforms surrounding the swimming pool, whilst still distributing the light in a targeted manner across the water.

This reduces glare for backstroke swimmers and allows for installation and maintenance from the side. Consequently, there is no need for a scaffold or aerial work platform above the water. EVAline is available with asymmetrical, symmetrical and extra-wide light distribution. These versions can be combined within a single installation to create the desired lighting effect for every part of the swimming pool.

The IP rating indicates how well a luminaire is protected against dust and water. IP68, also referred to as IPX8 when only water resistance is relevant, is suitable for permanent use underwater. EVAhydra and EVAsubaqua are designed for this purpose. IP53 is intended for use above water, where a luminaire must be protected against dust, moisture and splashing water but is not submerged.

EVAhydra spotlights have been developed for locations where powerful lighting is required and the luminaire may come into contact with water. The IP68 (IPX8) spotlights are suitable for use both above and below water. A heat sink ensures that the luminaire is adequately cooled even when out of the water.

In swimming pools, EVAhydra is often used as supplementary lighting alongside EVAline and as RGBW mood lighting during recreational swimming and events. The spotlights are also suitable for locations with a fluctuating water level and for water slides, water attractions, fountains, water features and planters. EVAhydra is available in 25 and 50 watts and in mono and RGBW.

Which standards does EVAline meet? It has been tested by DEKRA and certified as impact-resistant in accordance with DIN VDE 0710-13 and DIN 18032-3. This means that EVAline is suitable for use in swimming pools, sports halls and multi-purpose sports facilities.

The modular design makes EVAline flexible in terms of design, installation and maintenance. Light and cover modules click into place on the base module – without screws or tools – exactly where the lighting plan requires a light point. In this way, it is the lighting plan that determines the position of the lighting, rather than a fixed luminaire spacing. A light module can be replaced individually at a later date without having to dismantle the entire light line.

The Auto Temperature System protects the LEDs from excessive temperatures. The temperature above a swimming pool can rise significantly, and heat affects the lifespan of LEDs. The system therefore continuously monitors the temperature and automatically dims the light – almost imperceptibly – when it exceeds 45 °C. This protects the LEDs and ensures their lifespan is maximised.

Flicker-free lighting ensures a calm and even light pattern. This is pleasant for swimmers who regularly look up, and important for lifeguards who need to maintain a clear view of both above and below the water at all times. Flickering can become even more noticeable on a moving water surface.

Flicker-free light is also important in fast-paced sports such as water polo. Flickering light can cause a stroboscopic effect, making a fast-moving ball appear to move less smoothly. EVAline is completely flicker-free. The microprismatic louvre also limits glare to well below UGR 19.

With asymmetrical lighting, the light is directed at an angle into the swimming pool rather than straight downwards. This allows the luminaires to be positioned above the pool decks surrounding the pool rather than directly above the water. This reduces glare for backstroke swimmers and minimises reflections on the water’s surface. It also gives the lifeguard a better view of the water, and installation and maintenance can be carried out from the side.

EVAline has a modular design, which allows maintenance to be carried out quickly and precisely. The LEDs, driver and cover can be replaced individually using service kits, so there is no need to replace the entire luminaire. The modules click into place on the base without the need for tools. In addition, the Auto Temperature System continuously monitors the LED temperature and protects the LEDs from excessive heat. This ensures the system’s lifespan is maximised and maintenance is kept to a minimum.

Yes. EVAline is ideal for refurbishing existing swimming pool lighting. At the Stappegoor leisure pool in Tilburg, for example, installation partner BetuwTech replaced the outdated fluorescent lighting with EVAline featuring asymmetrical light distribution. This resulted in brighter lighting and a softer, more even light output. As the luminaires could be positioned around the pool rather than above the water, installation could be carried out from the pool edge, eliminating the need for a scaffold above the water.

The required light level depends on the type of swimming pool, its use and the applicable requirements. For many swimming pool applications, 300 or 500 lux on the water’s surface is taken as a basis. Additional requirements may apply to competition and sports facilities.

EVAline reduces both the energy consumption and the maintenance costs of swimming pool lighting. The system consumes 50 to 70 per cent less energy than fluorescent lighting and gas-discharge lamps, and lasts five to ten times longer. Furthermore, the asymmetrical optics can reduce the number of luminaires required.

As the luminaires can be installed above the platforms surrounding the swimming pool, fitting and maintenance can be carried out from the poolside. This avoids the need for scaffolding or pontoons over the water and the resulting closure of the pool.
