Counter-current swimming machines

A propeller system works with a large propeller behind a grille and creates a powerful, wide current that is pleasant to swim in. The limitation lies in the nature of the system: the swimming pool and the swim machine are a single product. So you are not choosing a counter-current system for your pool, but a pool that already incorporates the counter-current system, with the size, shape, material and finish provided by the manufacturer. The size is usually compact: just large enough to serve as a functional training pool, but less suitable for wellness and family recreation. An EVAstream is built into the wall of your own swimming pool, giving you complete freedom in terms of shape, size, material and finish.

Furthermore, the suction differs. Because the acceleration takes place within the machine, the outflow from an EVAstream is considerably more powerful than the suction. In a propeller system, suction and outflow are equal; therefore, at the same outflow speed, the suction force in the water is much stronger there.

Water displacement is expressed in m³/h and indicates how much water a swim machine displaces. That number alone does not tell you how the current feels while swimming. The flow velocity, width, and range of the current are also important factors.

EVAstream combines high water displacement with a high flow velocity across a wide current. For example, the EVAstream 225 achieves a flow velocity of 5.5 m/s at 225 m³/h. The current remains wide and extends far into the pool.

Therefore, do not compare counter-current machines solely based on the number of cubic meters of water per hour.

A counter-current swimming machine creates a powerful water current that allows you to swim in one spot. This enables you to swim longer distances even in a relatively compact pool without having to turn around repeatedly.

There are various techniques for creating such a current, including jet streams, turbines, and propeller systems. EVAstream uses a patented hybrid technology that combines an in-house developed propeller with three overlapping blades and a narrowed turbine tunnel. This creates a wide, powerful current that extends far into the pool.

Installation documentation, wiring diagrams, manuals, and fact sheets are available on the product page for the relevant model. This includes our interactive wiring diagram in seven languages, with cable length calculations and assistance with connecting the power supply.

Yes. The EVAstream Move, winner of the 2025 Red Dot Design Award, is our portable, cordless, battery-powered counter-current swimming machine. Simply place the Move on the edge of your pool and position the turbine against the pool wall. You’ll be swimming in two minutes, without any permanent installation or modifications to your pool.

Yes, in two ways. In the interactive training tool on this site, you can view a complete swimming workout from start to finish. You’ll see in real time how the current speed changes and how the underwater lighting shows your progress during each exercise.

If you’d like to experience it for yourself, you can book a trial swim session. You’ll then swim a workout with EVAstream and experience how the current, automatic controls, and—optionally—the underwater lighting work together during a workout. The EVA Experience Center will open in the spring of 2027. Until then, trial swim sessions will take place at other locations.

The angle at which the turbine unit is positioned in the niche determines where the swimming current hits your body. If the turbine unit is not properly aligned, the current may flow under or over your body, and you will feel less resistance. Even a slight adjustment to the angle can significantly improve how the current is directed toward your body.

Because every swimmer’s position in the water is different, the position of the turbine unit is adjusted in consultation with you upon installation. This ensures that the swimming current aligns as closely as possible with your swimming posture, allowing you to get the most out of the EVAstream.

Yes. With a powerful countercurrent, you can swim continuously without having to turn and train specifically at your own level. EVAstream’s patented hybrid technology creates a wide, powerful current that extends far into the pool. This allows you to swim farther from the machine and gives you room to speed up and slow down.

With Get Active and Train like a Pro, you can also follow complete swim workouts in which the EVA System automatically controls the current speed, workout components, and rest periods. With EVAsubaqua underwater lighting, colors and light signals can guide you during your workout. Train like a Pro offers twenty ready-made workouts and the option to create your own workouts and programs.

Yes. The covers used to mount the underwater lights and the EVAstream onto the pool wall are available in a range of finishes, so that the technical elements complement the style of your swimming pool. The options are listed under ‘EVA Finishes’ and on the product pages themselves.

Yes. The ECA is the system’s computer and controls the EVAstream. An EVAstream will not work without an ECA.

The EVAstream 175 works with the ECA Stream. The other EVAstream models are combined with ECA System 1, 2 or 3. You can find out which functions are available with each and which of the three EVA System experiences they correspond to on the page about the EVA System.

The EVAstream is very quiet. In a real-world measurement by a Swiss acoustic consultancy, a noise level of just 29 dB was measured in the living space next to the pool room at a water displacement of 215 m³/h, compared with 52 dB for another counter-current swimming machine under the same conditions. The 52 dB consists of 46 dB measured plus a 6 dB penalty for an audible humming tone. For the EVAstream, this penalty did not apply, as no humming tone was audible. The background noise was 23 dB.

The low noise level is partly due to the in-house developed propeller, which moves a lot of water and builds pressure at a relatively low rotational speed. As a result, the EVAstream does not need to run at high speeds to create a powerful swimming current. In addition, the motors are precisely balanced in our own production facility, which reduces vibration and mechanical noise.

To use an EVAstream, you will need a swimming pool measuring at least 4.5 × 2.5 × 1.2 metres.

Please also bear in mind any obstacles in the swimming pool. For optimum water flow, it is best to avoid these. If there are obstacles, position them symmetrically on both sides of the EVAstream wherever possible. This allows the water to circulate evenly throughout the pool and ensures the swimming current remains optimal.

With both versions, the flow remains sufficiently concentrated to fully envelop the body. A dual version creates an even wider swimming zone.

The EVAstream 175 to 350 models operate with a single turbine unit. The EVAstream 450 and 550 models have two turbine units side by side. The specified outflow velocity applies to each turbine unit.

The difference is particularly noticeable for experienced swimmers with an efficient stroke who sit higher in the water. A single turbine unit provides a focused current that suits a narrower swimming stroke well. Two turbine units create a broader current pattern, ensuring that the body remains fully in the counter-current even with wider swimming strokes and at a fast pace.

The best way to find out which version you prefer is to try them out in the water. During a trial swimming session, you can therefore try both versions and experience the difference for yourself.

Which EVAstream suits you depends mainly on your swimming level and how you like to swim. The six EVAstream models differ in the volume of water they move and in flow speed, from relaxed swimming to intensive swim training.

It is not only the volume of water moved that matters. The combination of flow speed, width and reach determines how the stream feels while you swim. A more powerful model also gives you more room to build up your swimming speed in the future. The shape of your pool also affects how the EVAstream moves the water. Explore the stream in your pool with the EVAstream FlowLab tool.

Not sure which model suits you? An EVA partner can advise you based on your swimming level, requirements and pool.

Yes. With ‘Get Active’ and ‘Train like a Pro’, EVAsubaqua underwater lighting can provide visual guidance during your swimming training. When swimming against the current, you remain in the same spot. This means you don’t have the lanes and turning points that naturally provide orientation when swimming laps in a standard swimming pool.

Colours and light signals take over this orientation function and show you whilst you’re swimming when you need to exert yourself, recover or when the next part of the session begins. This means you don’t have to keep looking at a clock or display and can concentrate fully on your swimming.

Outside of training sessions, you can use the EVAsubaqua lighting independently of the EVAstream for mood lighting in the pool.

Thrust is the force with which a counter-current swimming machine sets the water in motion. It is calculated from the volume of water moved and the flow speed at the outlet. The EVAstream 275 moves 275 m³/h at 6.7 m/s, producing a thrust of approx. 52 kg. This force carries the stream far into the pool, right into your swimming zone.

Yes. The EVAstream is steplessly adjustable, from a gentle stream for relaxed swimming to a powerful stream for intensive training. When you turn it down, the shape of the stream stays the same: just as wide and just as stable, only gentler. The streamlined turbine tunnel determines the shape; the setting only determines the speed. Where you swim, in the middle of the swimming zone, the stream is approx. 1.5 metres wide.
