EVA System 3 - Train like a Pro
At this waterside house in Zwartsluis, an 18-year-old son and a 16-year-old daughter, both of whom compete at national level, go swimming. Their club training sessions take place at the swimming centre, but they practise their technique in the outdoor pool behind the house. And when they’ve finished, their parents and grandfather swim their own laps there.
“They can now go in the water whenever they like, even on days when there’s no club training. And technique drills go surprisingly well in the current.”

Why your own pool?
Our son of 18 and daughter of 16 both swim at national level. They do their training at the club in the swimming centre, but those sessions are at fixed times. We wanted them to be able to get in between sessions too, without getting into the car first.
How does the lighting help with that?
In an ordinary pool you know where you are by counting lanes. That is missing here. The light takes over: red at the start, green in the middle, blue for the last stretch. They say that at blue they always give a little extra.
What stood out most after installation?
How quiet it is. We had expected a machine you could hear throughout the house. You hear the water, not the motor. And setting it up was less fuss than expected: speed and swim duration in the app, and that is it.
Can you really train seriously in it?
That was our biggest question. We went for a test swim together with our pool builder. Our son swam half a workout and came out saying it was harder than he had expected. After that we needed no more convincing.
Does the rest of the family use it as well?
We swim a few times a week ourselves, and in summer the grandfather comes round almost daily for his lengths at a calm setting. For us it is not a competition pool, for the children it is; that works in the same water.
Would you do anything differently?
We should have included the tablet holder at the poolside in the design straight away. Nothing else. And in hindsight we are glad we chose the double turbine; the swimming zone is wide enough for our daughter’s butterfly.
