Operating the EVA experience web app

ECA Control

Every EVAstream requires an ECA Control unit to operate the system, but not every swimmer needs the same features—such as advanced swim training programs. By expanding the range of ECA Control options, customers can now choose the model that best fits their needs without paying for unnecessary features.

Key differences between ECA Control options
Below is a overview of the main differences between the ECA Control models:

  • Open the EVAwebapp on your tablet or smartphone.
  • Tap the star symbol at the top of the screen.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to select and upgrade to the next available ECA Control version.
  • Confirm the upgrade and wait for the process to complete.

Operating EVA Lighting

Click on “EVA Lights” in the webinterface. You now get an overview with 1 or more control panels, depending on the number of lighting groups that your installation has.

Select the desired colour or colour changing scene per lighting group by clicking on it. You can adjust (dim) the light intensity per lighting group by means of the slider(s).

When the EVAstream is being used for a preset swim training, the top lighting group will not be available, because this group contains the EVA underwater lights that change colour during the swimming training. This group will turn grey in the webinterface during the training. The other lighting groups can still be operated while training.

Operating the EVAstream

In the webinterface, click on “EVAstream”. You will now see the control panel. Here you can control the EVAstream. Determine the swimming speed (Intensity) and how long you want to swim continuously (Time remaining).

Time Remaining
Select how many minutes you want to swim. The time counts down in real-time so you can easily see how much time remains of your swimming session.

Intensity
Select at what percentage of the maximum EVAstream capacity you want to swim. The system always remembers the last used intensity.

Course of Swim Session
The course of your current swimming session is displayed here in real time. When you click on the “play” icon, the bar will start to run. You see how much time you swim and at what intensity.

You can always pause and restart your swimming session. You can also change your swimming speed during the session with the Intensity slider or with the remote control.

Operating the preset User Trainings

You can follow preset swim training sessions. You will find these under the users you have created. Each training follows a fixed structure: warm-up swim, one to three exercise cores, cool-down swim. An exercise core is a series of repetitions of one particular exercise. After each exercise you have a short rest of 15 seconds to a maximum of 1 minute. Some exercises are swum at the same speed, in other exercises the speed is increased within the exercise or every repetition of the exercise goes a little faster.

Colour changing underwater lights
The EVA LED underwater lighting automatically changes colour when the training is started and will change colour during the exercises. The underwater lighting guides you through the training. Every exercise, whether it’s a sprint or an endurance exercise, is made up of three parts; you start the exercise in red light, after one third the lights turn green, and you end the exercise in blue light. The changing light colours give you orientation within the exercise and also motivate you.

Have the lamps turned blue? You know you’re almost there, you just add a little extra! Rest breaks are also built into every exercise. The lamps turn white, the EVAstream is off, you can catch your breath. A few seconds before the next exercise starts, the lights flash briefly. The number of flashes of the lamps indicates how many repetitions of this exercise will follow still.

Operating a swim training

In the webinterface, you can choose between 4 user profiles or use the guest account. Click on the user of your choice. You now see the first control panel. You can always follow the swimming training at your own level. Select the desired intensity. The entire workout will now automatically be adjusted to your swim speed.

The last used intensity (speed) of the EVAstream is automatically “remembered” in the user settings for each individual user and training. You therefore do not have to remember at what percentage you swim this training type most comfortably.

Select the desired training by clicking on it. You will now see the second control panel. At Time Remaining you can see the duration of the selected training. At Intensity you can select the swimming speed by using the slider. Course of Swim Session shows how the training is structured. Once the settings are set, the stream turns on or off according to what is set in the app.

For example, the screen below shows that this workout starts with a few minutes of warming-up at 70% of full capacity. This is followed by a series of 3 exercises that increase in intensity, each with a short rest break in between. This is followed by a series of 4 shorter exercises at maximum speed and finally a few minutes of cooling down at a low speed.

On the screen (screenshot 3) you can see in real-time how far you have progressed in the training, which exercise will follow next, and how often it will be repeated. You can always pause and restart your workout. You can also change your swim speed during the current workout with the Intensity slider or with the remote control.

Overview of the different ECA controls

Each ECA Control version comes with its own unique set of features, settings and functionalities. These are designed to suit different user needs and training goals from simple operation to a complete professional training experience. Here is what each version offers:

ECA Control Eco: The Eco version includes only the essential controls. It allows adjustment of the speed an intensity of the EVAstream, as well as turning it on or off. The app theme can also be customized. The Eco does not include any advanced settings.

ECA Control 1 Essential: The Essential version provides basic control functionality. It also lets you manage multiple lighting groups. However, no training sessions are available for this control.

ECA Control 2 Training: The Training version offers the basic control features and allows you to manage multiple lighting groups. Users have the option to follow 4 different training programs, which are personally customized to their swimming skill level. You can also create your own custom training sessions.

ECA Control 3 ProTrainer: The ProTrainer version offers the basic control features and lets you manage multiple lighting groups. Users can choose from 20 different training programs, organized into three types of training within a structured program. These sessions are personally customized to match each swimmer’s skill level. You can also create your own custom training sessions.

Create your own training

In the webinterface, click the gear icon in the top right corner to open the basic settings. Under ‘Training Programs’, select custom training and click on the pencil icon to start creating your own training session.

To begin, drag a component from the panel on the right into the main area. Each time you add an item, a new exercise is added to your training. Keep adding components to build a complete workout.

Configure the following settings for each exercise:

  • Delay: choose how long the break should be before the exercise starts.
  • Flash count: choose the number of light flashes that will appear before the exercise starts. We recommend setting the flash count to match the number of exercises that are about to follow. For example, if there are 4 exercises remaining, set the flash count to 4.
  • Duration: decide how long the exercise should last.
  • Stream Intensity: this is divided into three phases, each making up one-third of the total duration.

Types of exercises to create

Every training session begins with a gentle warm-up swim and ends with a relaxed cool-down. The main part of the training is divided into three segments, allowing you to focus on different types of swimming workouts, such as endurance, sprint and interval training.

Interval training

Start with 6 rounds of 1 minute swims, progressively increasing the intensity. Begin with 2 rounds at 90% effort, followed by 2 rounds at 95 %, and finish with 2 rounds at 100% effort. After each round, take 20 seconds of rest.

Once you’ve completed the 6 intervals, continue with steady 3 minutes swim at 95% effort, followed by a 30 second rest.

Endurance training

Start with 5 rounds of 5 minutes, progressively increasing your speed from 90% to 100% effort. After each round, take a 60 second rest.

Next, move on to 2 rounds of 10 minutes. Build your speed up from 85% to 100% effort. Take 60 seconds rest between each round.

If you include a third phase, finish with 3 rounds of 3 minutes at a steady 100% effort, taking 30 seconds of rest between each round.

Sprint training

The sprint training consists of 5 rounds of 1 minute swims, gradually increasing in speed from 80% to 100% effort. Take 30 seconds of rest between each round.

After the first round, move on to 6 rounds of 30 seconds steady swims at 100% effort. Between these sprints, take 15 seconds of rest.

Technique training

During the technique training you focus on your swimming technique in the water. Start by swimming 3 rounds of 2 minutes at 70% effort, taking 15 seconds of rest between each round.

After the first round swim 6 rounds of 5 minutes at 90% effort, with 30 seconds of rest.
